Every 19 year old male needs to understand that there is no shortage of eligible females in the herd. Why screw up your youth by dating a JW female who sneaks around. There is probably severe neurosis lurking here anyway. Run and run fast.

How Easy Was It To Leave?
by ballistic inwhen i was df, i actually wanted to return which isn't suprising when you look at their brain washing: * http://www.escapefromwatchtower.com/mind.html.
i think it took me a couple of years to fully get over it and now the scripture "like a dog returning to it's vomit" comes to mind.. i gather some people here came to their senses while still in the org.
did anyone actually find it easy to leave?.

The majority of those leaving, from what I read here and on other boards suffer two losses when they separate from the WTS. One, the loss of friends and family members who remain Witnesses and two a belief system that has no easy replacement. For me, just drifting away over time worked well. Because I had no congregation affiliation, after awhile, and after reading Crisis of Conscience, I felt absolutely no need to formally disassociate myself because that would have made it hard on my family. I don't believe I owe the WT goons another ounce of pain, discomfort or anguish. After many years of examining other belief systems I have reached a comfortable state where I am. If somehow elders wanted to visit with me, I'd refuse to talk to them. If they came to my door I'd order them off of my property. If they in any way bothered me or my family after my previous refusals, I'd plan an appropriate punishment for them. It might involve a family pet, a nasty rumor to their neighbors, who knows? They would pay a price too great. I view them as the enemy.
Leaving for me has been NO problem at all.

"Special" meeting in October?
by Esmeralda inquestion.
my mother told my husband that there is to be a 'special meeting' in october at the local sports arena (same place as dc's are held here) and that "only publishers are allowed to attend" that they will get "special cards" for admission from their local congregation and have to hand them in to get into the building.
i have no idea if this has anything to do with the "annual meeting" they always have (isn't that generally in october?

Perhaps this is a special meeting (sting operation) conducted by the FBI in order to get all the pedophiles in select locations to make it easier for them to be arrested. No, the society wouldn't betray the brothers like that. . . would they?

Question for you RE: Holidays
by peacepipe ingathering that there seems to be a mix of active jw's, inactive jw's, ex-jw's, atheists etc.
here, i am wandering on your thoughts on the holidays with more focus on the more religious based holidays like christmas & easter.. i'd like to know if you celebrate them like the mainstream of society or if you still have your reservations about them based on what you learned as part of the wt.
i myself have been very turned off by the holidays in recent years - not because of the wt though- but for my own personal reasons.

peacepipe:
Once I settled the matter in my mind of the Watchtower Society being a false religion (not to imply that their are any true religions), then celebrating holidays both religious and otherwise became a non-issue. I celebrate them all with gusto. If it involved a party and/or exchanging gifts I'd celebrate a holiday in honor of street light changes.
I left the WT society completely in 1984. My wife (non-Witness) and our children (non-Witness) enjoy putting up the Christmas tree, decorating the house and exchanging gifts. When my kids were little I used to love hiding Easter eggs and watching them find them. The absolute joy and excitement that the holidays have brought to my family is irreplaceable. I never had holidays growing up. I had door to door magazine sales instead. Is it any wonder I look back on my childhood with contempt?

In the words of the late John Lennon, "Imagine".
Imagine that the JW's were right and Armageddon made bird feed out of everyone except JW's.
Imagine that you survived into the "new world".
Imagine that your work, leisure and behavior was monitored, corrected and controlled by the local elders.
Imagine that instead of five meetings a week, you had mandatory daily meetings in the morning and at night.
Imagine. . . wake up. . . WAKE UP. . . it was only a nightmare!

LET'S MAKE A LITTLE WAGER
by You Know inperhaps you recall the instance in the bible where samson made a wager with the philistines that they couldnt guess his riddle.
as it turned out they wheedled the answer out of him by his fiancee, but the point is that they had a wager.
since the underlying assumption of the apostasy is that we are not living in the last days of this system of things, and that this world is not facing anything remotely like the biblical apocalypse, at least not any time soon, in the spirit of such antagonism, i would like to propose a similar wager.

Is there something relevant about the health of the economy as it relates to Jehovah's Witnesses? What did I miss here?

Beware of those adjectives!
by ozziepost indid you realise that joe ratherflawed spoke in a "fatherly tone"?
well, that's what the july 15 issue of the watchtower says.. in a section obviously intended to boost the reputation of jfr in the minds of modern-day witnesses, the skilful use of adjectives conjures up a picture of kind benevolence.. in just 4 paragraphs, expressions used are "largest convention", "listened intently", "fatherly tone", "children rose as one body", "burst of applause", "prolonged applause", "moving talk", "long line", "gift copy", "moved the audience to tears", "memorable assembly".. now try reading these four paragraphs without the adjectives.
they weren't essential to the story but they sure help to tug at the heartstrings.. it reminds me of the adulation of despots like mao tse tung and stalin who were written about during their regimes in similar language to this article.. note this quote in this section from an "eyewitness": "only a heart of stone would not be moved at the spectacle of youth [showing] complete trust and faith in their god, jehovah".

I once had a leisurely Saturday afternoon conversation with an elderly man at Bethel who was there with Rutherford and the picture he painted of Rutherford was quite the contrary of "fatherly". It seems Rutherford was quite the drinker and often frequented Manhattan drinking establishments, returning to Bethel hammered. He also had quite a temper and showed little mercy for those who made the mistake of crossing him. I know that some unfortunates have had fathers like that, but not me.
